Meet the team behind Dual Universe
Novaquark is an indie game studio based in the center of Paris. Founded in 2014 by JC Baillie an expert in AI & Robotics. It operates on funds successfully raised from private investors and remains entirely independent. The company has around 25 employees who are all working exclusively on the game Dual Universe.
At Novaquark, we believe in the potential of emergent systemic gameplay and being at the forefront of massively multiplayer online game concepts. We recruit bright minds and creative people who are bringing together a game that pushes the boundaries of online gaming to the next generation.
...and an introduction to some of the individuals behind Novaquark
Having developed a strong customer care culture during his first job at Hewlett Packard Support for professional printers in France,
Ludovic then flew to Ireland to join the Gala Network teams managing the gPotato games for the European market.
He has worked on many titles, explored the Astral in Allods Online, monitored and arbitrated large scale conflicts between warlords on Terra Militaris, guided and entertained intrepid adventurers on Dragonica... until the day a wormhole grabbed him unexpectedly and made him land in a small and mysterious company named Novaquark to work on a project called "Dual Universe". That was the beginning of an epic and long term quest, in which he is fully immersed now!

He also specializes in environment, procedural materials and textures, high poly and 3d printing.
Senior 3D Artist
Florian is an expert in 3ds Max, ZBrush and Photoshop.
Lead Server Developer
Architecturing and developing the amazing technology powering the multiplayer component of the game.
Seriously, this will be huge.
Working on networking, servers and distributed applications for 10+ years, for video games, mobile applications or large scale distributed systems.
Also: there's no place like 127.0.0.1
Just a developer who like games, computing and motor bikes ;)
Lead Gameplay Developer
The one who is passionate about solving problems and making things work. With a knowledge of the different areas from graphics creation to the final image rendering, he smoothes out the workflow.
His background in Computer Engineering and Virtual Reality made him hesitate between a real and a virtual life. Dual Universe allowed him to live both at the same time, creating a persistent virtual world for real!
Just after getting his engineer degree, Sacha decided
it was time to start getting serious...serious about games.
His computer science and mathematical background are put to good use as he is responsible for the voxel engine of Dual Universe.
He preaches about free software and BÉPO layout. He owns hundreds of board games, and enjoys bringing them to work to beat his co-workers.
Associate Lead Graphic Programmer
Guillaume enjoys c++, direct3D, mathematics, drinking coffee & rock climbing.
Senior Gameplay Developer
Senior software engineer and project manager experienced in mobile, web, system and network development for 3d real time applications/tools and video game engine/middleware.
Previously worked on low level libraries, multiuser module and web plugin for Virtools game engine. Then I was part of the R&D team of Total Immersion which develop computer vision tools for augmented reality. Finally try to mix video game and board game at ePawn.
Now I am part of the gameplay team at Novaquark and especially manage all stuff related to the player Avatrs.
Founder & Creative Director
The man at the helm of the Novaquark ship; steering the rudder of development, poushing the Dual Universe dream and managing the Novaquark team. Jean-Christophe has a background in robotics and a PhD in Artifical Intelligence, yet despite this he still chooses to spend his time with real people.
Following a life long passion for emergent gameplay, the next logical step was to take over the world with his army of robots...fortunately for the sake of humanity JC was a gamer and so he embarked on a more friendlier ambition to make an MMO with emergent sytems at its core.
Senior UX Designer
With a background in motion and interactive design Ryan has spent the last decade delivering digital experiences for a number of international clients.
He is a daydreamer and a first-world problem solver with a desire to make a frictionless world, or in this case an entire Universe.
After studying law and politics in France for several years, Samantha moved to Montreal (Canada) to pursue her studies and be admitted to the Quebec Bar.
She was fortunate to join the real estate department of the prestigious business law firm Stikeman Elliott LLP and to make her first professional steps in this challenging environment.
Since her return to France and before integrating the Novaquark team, she has been in charge of the administrative and financial management of several companies in the design, audiovisual and music industry.
After studying corporate communication stuff, JB decided to use his degrees to work in the video game industry. You know? Where it's necessary to be professional while not taking yourself too seriously? You got it.
Passionate about video games (and the people that make them) since forever, it's been a decade that he works advocating for the gaming industry and promoting its exciting products. At Novaquark, he's thrilled to work on a game changer like Dual Universe.
Frédéric De Jaeger
Frédéric De Jaeger
Head of Voxel Development
Fred studied theoretical computer science (PhD), then went more practical by working at Apple (synchronisation, data detection).
After several years in a tiny startup (about photography), Fred is now in the video game industry working at Novaquark and the brains behind the complexities of the voxel engine.
Chief Operations Officer
Benoit is a geek with an MBA (INSEAD). Born engineer (almost) he has significant experience in high-tech startups management, product development and taking crazy disruptive innovations to the market.
That includes all kind of Software and Hardware, including robots and now, since his mother told him to be ambitious in life, a whole universe.
What do you get if you mix a Computer Science degree with a Masters in Game development? ...Antoine Fournier. Perfectly qualified he works primarily on optimizing and improving the server architecture behind Dual Universe. He loves his job almost as much as he is loves Nutella.
I'm the old man (in fact the oldest member of Novaquark)...
I lead the 3D team, the greatest 3D team at Novaquark (sure... the only one)
For 20 years I have been working in the game industry and I'm happy today to have a veritable challenge in my job.
